Clinton Halts St. Paul’s Title Hopes with 9-6 Win
St. Paul and Clinton First Baptist battled in the
semi-finals this week with Clinton posting a 9-6 victory.
Threes seemed to be the magic number as the score was tied
3-3, then 6-6 and finally Clinton added another 3 while St.
Paul came up empty.
St. Paul scored first with one in each of the first 3
innings. Clinton countered quickly with 3 of their own in
the bottom of the first leaving the score 3-3 at the middle
of the third inning. Clinton then added 3 more to take a 6-3
lead but St. Paul came back in the 6th with 3 to
knot the score again at 6-6. Short lived, Clinton countered
with 3 runs of their own to go up 9-6. St. Paul could not
score in the 7th and ended their season for 2011.
Leading hitters for St. Paul’s final game were Jim Neitzel
with a perfect 3 for 3 including a double and 2 runs scored.
Justin Winch also was perfect with a 2 for 2 evening. The
big hit for the night was a bases-loaded clearing double by
Andy Peterson in the 6th inning driving in all 3
runners. Andy also collected an RBI in the first inning to
give him a total of 4 RBI’s for the night. Sean Behm tripled
in the second inning driving in Allen McKillips with no
outs, but the team could not get Sean across the plate.
St. Paul final record including the tournament was 9-7 and
finished tied for third place in the league season
standings. What did they say, “Wait till next year”.
